together to Svalbard as he wanted to operate on his
own Does he have a trump behind his hand?
In a talk I had last night with
the pilot of Uppland, Sergeant Nilsson, he mentioned
the Swedes had tried to cooperate with Amundsen in Tromso,
to get guidance and help up north, but Amundsen Answered
that he had to operate alone, as it was very urgent
to bring the Italians help. Everybody in Ny-Alesund
is expecting Amundsen to have a trump on his hand."

Penzo made a search flight to look for Captain Amundsen
down to South Cape and Bear Islandand returned in a
more westerly route but found no sign of the Letham

Riiser-Larsen on Baganza Ship
Telegram to Ingoy Radio Statio:
"Kindly inform me the content of connection you
with Amundsen after departure from Tromso and if the
connection was strong and clear".
The reply was: "We received
from Latham the following telegram to Bear Island: Captain
Amundsen onboard Latham asked to have ice reports if
any. The signals were strong. We asked Twice for his
position but either the radio operator did not receive
it or Amundsen did not wish to give it. This message
here was received after we asked for his position"

with Heimland searching the waters around Bear Island.

Aftenposten: Russian criticism
of the organisation of the rescue work, "
it
is completely unexplainable tha nobody has exact knowledge
about his flight plan or other intentions, a circumstance
that makes a search for Amundsen extremely difficult"
