The practical sense of the swedish people can be verified
thanks to the incredible work of conversion of a stone cave
in a place of concerts and music capable to contain more than
4.300 places!
The words will not succeed transmit the glamour of a open
concert room, crated on the fund of a stone cave in disuse:
the platform is located in the middle of the cave, on the
water lake, and all around it raise the semicircle platforms
that can contain more than 4.300 numbered places...and the
platform and the public are at about 70-100 meters under the
level of the ground!
The theater is called Dalhalla and it placed in Rattvick
in the heart of the Sweden, North to the Silijan lake, famous
locality for its winter sport, placed about 50 kilometers
between Delay and Falun, famous places for their ski fund
marathons.
Some partners of the polar circle Club assisted to a concert
of Folk music Folk to the Dalhalla, in the summer of the year
2003: you have to imagine a large ordered parking in the forests,
therefore a "biblical" crowd that comes down towards the field
of the stone cave, walking slowly reproducing a stage like
"Cerchio Dantesco".
The acoustic is incredible and the concerts are at excellent
level, with folk, rock and classic music and theatrical and
lyric operes. The emotion of participate to the concert and
to the Dalhalla, farewell a journey in the heart of the Sweden.
How to arrive: Rattvick is located at the beginning of the
large Swedish forests between Falun and Delay, large ski and
well-known centre for the winter marathon. From Stockholm
you have to follow the State Road n.70. By the way, in Falun
is very interesting to visit the old Copper's open mine, with
annexed museum: it's an occasion to understand the extractive
technology and the life of the swedish involved in the mining
trial of production.
Ratvick is a place of vacation in winter as well as in summer
(in summer it's mainly attended by Swedish people), therefore
there is a good hotels structure. On the banks of the Silijan
lake there is an attractive camping where is also possible
to rent Stuga or Hutter: very comfortable wood bungalow.
Dalhalla is 6 kilometers far from the north of the citizens,
well signalled and with a spacious parking. Entrance tickets
for the show are obtainable at the Tourist Office located
nearby the railroad Station.
An advice: the shows are very busy (buses arrive from
Falun and Delay) therefore even if there are a lot of places,
you can risk not to find available tickets if you reserve
at the last moment.
Here there is the web side address where you can deep the
information about the next concert season.

A open museum that you have to discover a little to the time,
on foot, by bike or by car. The archeological site of Tanum,
to the west of the Scania above the town of Goteborg on the
road that carries to Oslo; the site is immense and is rich
of rockies engraving, rune stones, graves and engravings of
the bronze age. The site is recognized in the world Property
of UNESCO and according to the green guide of the Touring,
it's one of the main Europeans archeological zones of the
prehistory.
Some partners of the Polar Circle Club, visited it in the
summer of 2003 and they give the advise to begin the visit
from the museum sited in Vitlycke: here is represented the
story of the scandinavian man in the Iron Age and a video
summarizes all of the archeological sites. From the outside
of the museum, you can reach, on foot, a hill with varied
boulders spread all around and on these boulders are carved
figures of the Bronze Age: the ship, the warrior, the struggle...
For those who develop a traveling vacation, by the side of
the museum there is a gracious and calm camping with the possibility
of renting a "stuga", small wooden houses very comfortable.
How to arrive.
Tanum is located on the highway that joins Goteborg with
Oslo, therefore it can be visiited even going to the North
than caming back. If you want to dedicate more time to the
knowledge of the southern Sweden a suggestion is to visit
the interesting swedish technology: the SAAB Museum of Trollhatan,
very interesting to understand the historical evolution of
this business (from the locomotives to the airplanes production,
therefore to the car production forthe second world war to
today); the Volvo Museum that is located on a fiord to the
West of Gotheborg.
These two museums were visited, besides the aerial museum
of Linkoping and those of the historical motorbike of Sunne:
these visits are stored in an appropriate web site space.
The site of Tanum is also in English:

Kiruna is a modern town, born in 1900 on an Saami installation,
and grown, later, thanks to the plan of exploitation of the
rich deposits of iron.
The visit to the new mine is one of the experiences that
leave you breathless and that you will remember for years.
In fact, if you think to visit a smoky town, full of grey
houses, chimneys, sheds, cars and sad people... you will surprised:
today, the extraction of the iron happens in the subsoil between
1.000 and 1.500 meters. Today, the old open mine is a hill
where you can ski!
The new establishment is a building of 8-10 plans, full of
offices but there is not track of the mine, there are just
some arcades with a road going of car...
A 9 places minibus withdraws the visitors at the tourist
Office of Kiruna and it transport them through a double sense
arcade, coming down slowly until 800 meters; here there is
a 18 degrees constant temperature, a cinema room where you
can see the story of the town and the mine, an historical
museum and a guide that illustrates how happens, today, the
extraction of the mineral....
All the extraction operations are automatic and made to distance:
a broker video monitors the trial of extraction, maneuvers
the excavator from the desk (some times two escavetors), therefore
he discharging the material on powerful elevators directly
connected to the railroad cars, where the material will be
transported directly to the Narvik's ports (Atlantic Ocean)
or of Lulea (Baltic Sea) ...The words, the dispense, the depliants
do not succeed to create the right atmosphere and to give
all the information on the current situation and on the past
one: it's necessary to go there directly.
Different internet site are available.
We signal the official site of LKAB, the society that manages
the mines of Kiruna and Kallivare:
www.lkab.com/frameset_2.html
Besides the site of Kiruna, it's interesting to know the
large area full of lakes and forests, where there is the tourist
locality of Abisco, with its immense and interesting national
park from where begins Kungsleden, the historian "path of
the King", 225 kilometers long.

Reaching the Sweden from the Denmark or from the Germany,
allowed you to know and to visit the town of Malmo and, above
all, to admire and to go through, the new Oresund Bridge that
connects the Denmark to the Sweden.
It's a good stage to approach the Sweden and the Scandinavia,
taking a breath after the long way from Italy to here. Particularly,
you have to consider that in this area the distances are considerable:
an example? The kilometers between Malmo and Kirune, Northern
Sweden beyond the arctic polar circle, are... 1.775. It's
a stage that help you to take confidence with the territory,
the people and the Sweden history.
 |
The bridge has two lanes for directions plus two railroad
platforms that in the first part of the journey are adjacent
to the road for then going under it obtaining two travelling
levels of the bridge. The entire journey is of about 40 kilometers:
going from the South to the North, you pass near Kobenhaven
and then you take a tunnel of about 6 kilometers, tunnel that
is set down on the fund of the sea. Therefore you climb in
surface and for a certain stroke you drive at the level of
the sea... before arriving to the true and actual ascent of
the bridge with its immense arches that allow the crossing
of the transoceanic ships. Passing the two central arches
you come down towards the barrier of Malmoe and you reach
a square with a magnificent Tourist Center that offers all
of the comfort and all the information about Sweden and the
Scandinavia. And the toll is not absolutely expensive.
 |
If you are interested in deepening the
argument of the bridges and of the large works, an advise
is to read the appropriate section introduced in the

It's the official site of the society that manages the traffic
and the viability of the bridge.
Here it is possible to look at the initial project and the
phases of construction, besides the real time situation of
the traffic, the tariffs, the indications. Thanks to the webcam
you can observe the traffic flows in real time and the situation
to the entrance and exit barriers.

A major historical and tourist center. A center that allow
you "to praise and get oxygen" to pick the true
atmosphere of the Sweden and of the Great North.
The ancient town of Gamla Staden with its medieval buildings
and channels, create the doubt about how much little we know
the swedish story, the people, the customs... and how the
stereotypes are blundered.
In August, from the 15 to the 22, there is the gastronomic
week, with musical shows, cultural events, with the tradition
sampling of the river prawns.
We suggest to visit the site of the town.
In the section "The City" clicking The Bridge, you can have
a "Virtual Tour" of the Oresund Bridge: marvellous photograph
that allow you to admire the bridge from different point of
view with annexed informative notes.

Stockholm is one of the most attractive and interesting
Europeans Capitals.
The guides and the tourist agencies offer an enormous luggage
of news and information, where each one can find what more
interests him... therefore we omit to illustrate Stockholm
and its area.
Just one suggestion: it's indispensable to visit the Vasa
Museum or better The Vasa Museet.
You can't go through the Sweden, to stay Stockholm, to explore
the Baltic Sea, to throw yourself from the top of North Kapp,
to meet Santa Klaus in Rovaniemi... without visiting the Vasa
Museet! It's a great, charmed, complete, instructive experience,
that deserve a wall day visit thanks to the immense information
offers and the complex available rooms.
The Vasa was the largest wood war vessel: 69 meters long,
11.7 meters wide and 52 meters high, all to admire as it's
possible to enter from the keel to the superior castle, across
seven open balustrade plans that turn around the ship.
You imagine to be to the low plan, near the keel and lifted
the eyes: above of you, from the part of the Castle (where
there was the order and the rudder of the ship), you have
quite 52 original meters of ship of almost four centuries.
It's exciting.
Vasa Museet offers the opportunity to vision, to touch, to
deepen a true real vessel, built in 1628, sunk to its launch
after just 1300 meters, recovered almost unbroken in 1953.
Today it is visitabile thanks to the great operates of recover
and restore: the building of the museum was specially built
around the vessel! Seven open balustrade plan, that allow
you to observe the vessel in its majesty and in its curious
details.
Film, projections, models allow you to know all of the Vasa:
how it was built, how it was sunk, the motive of the wreck,
how it was recovered and systemized for the public, besides
a reconstruction of the work of the commission of question
on the sunk motive.
And to who that don't like ships?
To those who are not interesting in naval argument, the museum
offers films, information, findings about the life in Sweden
and in Stockholm in the period between the XV and the XVII°
century.
A first sight is possible visiting the site:
www.vasamuseet.se
All outside the museum, with the same cards, you can visit
a real icebreaking, the Sankt Erik, and a ferry-light, the
Finngrundet: from the room schemes to the booth of maneuver.

The Vattern lake, with the museum of Granna , dedicated
to the explorer Samuel Andrée, the cute town of Vadstena
with the complex dedicated to S.Brigida, the Visingso Isldan
with the horse carriages, and the Grand kanal with its spectacular
locks...
It's the Birth Country of the polar explorer Samuel Andre:
the one that tried, in 1897, to reach the North Pole with
a dirigible together with two companions. He was found quite
33 years later the departure, in 1930.
In Granna there is the Museum dedicated to the explorer Andre,
with the findings that were found in 1933, with interesting
photographic films and the diary of the explorer. The Diary
allow you to have a detailed report about the unhappy shipping,
also published in Italian in 1932.
In the museum it is possible to observe material, shoot guns
and photograph of the shipping. Evocative photograph that
is possible to consult in the same site of the museum.
Besides, the museum allow you to deepen the historical appearance
of the polar exploration and the current arctic phenomena,
thanks to satellite connections and the connection with the
Swedish Polar Research Institutes. Thanks to these initiatives,
in the museum it is possible to offer a clear sight of the
past, the present and the future of the Arctic and Antarctic
search.
Granna is situated in a pleasant position on the Vattern's
lake, in front of the Visingso island. North of Granna there
is the historical city of Vadstena.
The lake is a protagonist of the large navigation project
named Gota Kanal: a river connection from Goteborg to the
Baltic Sea, under Stockholm.
The lake is enormous for the Italian and European dimensions,
130 km. long, 32 Km wide and with a comprehensive surface
of 1.898 square Kilometers! It is the swedish second lake.
Visingoso is an island of just 25 square Kilometers. It's
located facing the citizen of Granna, reaching in boat and
visitabile with public carriages drawn from horses. Here there
are the ruins of a Castle of the XIII century, Nas Lott; the
ancient Visinsborgs slott, the castle built in the XVI century
where in july the 13 you can participate to the Visingso Festpel,
custom representations. Besides, there is an immense necropolis
of the iron age, with beyond 800 burials.

It's a citizen on the lake of Vattern, with a very significant
historical site. There are two important monuments: the Castle
and the S.Brigida Church where in the summer of 2003 were
celebrated the 700 years from the birth of S. Brigida, one
of six holy Eupopean Patrons proclaimed by Pope Giovanni Paolo
II.
, the blue Church
thank to the color of the stone used; it collects the rest
of S.Brigida. The convent has seen the return, in 1935, of
the sisters of the Order of S. Brigida.
The church, consecrated in 1384, is very interesting and
significant. The convent contains a park and some buildings,
today assigned to guest room, also open to the pilgrims.
was born in Uppsala,
she mainly lived out of the Sweden, promoting the search of
the peace in the thirty years war between France and Spain,
and strongly reminding the return of the Pope in Rome from
the seat of Avignone. She died in Rome and the hers strips
were carried to Vadstena.
In June the first of 2003 been inaugurated the monastic museum
of S.Brigida. In an ours personal visit, in the August 2002,
the parish priest given for certainty the presence of Pope
Giovanni Paolo II, in occasion of the celebration of the 700
years from the birth of S. Brigida. During the visit of the
church, you receive a small card, here reproduced, that restores
a prayer in different tongues.

The Castle already residence of the King Gustavo
Vasa. Surrounded by ditches, built in 1545, it's, according
to the Touring Green Guide, "one of the most wonderful monuments
of the Swedish Renaissance" and it attributes it two stars.
The Castle offers an elegance touch to an evocative historical
center, surrounded by channels and small ports, to visit walking
with calm to enjoy a unique atmosphere...
Then, if you have the passion, in the railroad station you
can see carriages of 30-50 years ago, stops on dead platforms.
If you are interesting in antique business and in the typical
objects, near the Castle there is an incredible bazar that
collects a lot of objects organized for swedish environment
typology from the end of the 800 and the beginning of the
'900 century.

The idea to connect the two greater swedish lakes with the
Baltic Sea, was born in 1516 by the Bishop of Linkoping. Only
in 1832 the work was completed, for comprehensive 243 kilometers
and a river connection from Goteborg and the Baltic Sea, allowing
to avoid the circumnavigation of the Southern Sweden. Today
the channel is a large tourist, river and of hydraulic engineering
attraction. Nearby the city of Linkoping, there are the spectacular
8 locks that allow to surpass a strong gap.
The journey between Goteborg and Stockholm happens on comfortable
tourist boats and it takes 3 days, with the possibility to
carry out intermediate movements.
At Motala, on the Vattern's Lake, there is an interesting
museum that describes the intense activities carried out and
the territory through by the channel.
