The tent used by the survivors of the Dirigible ITALIA on the pack, was green not red.

It was fabricated by the Italian enterprise named Moretti and it was made for four persons. To make it visible in height, it was blew on it a red liquid drawn by "glass jug full of a aniline colouring matter, that were used to throw from the dirigible to determine the height from the land and once exploded on the pack a big red blot was well visible" (contribution of Giuseppe Alberti from Milan)

tenda rossa

It’s a kind of food used during the expedition of the Red Tent and in many of other previous polar expedition: from Duca degli Abruzzi to Peary, from Albanov to the Kurluk crew, from Scott to Amudsen and Shakleton… and it consist in a sacked compressed meat with a long-term conservation and good energetic characteristics.

It’s not so frequent to meet a sign that says "air taxi" but in the polar circle lands, because of the long distances, it’s almost common to raise up an hand and scream …taxi!

Driving on the long north streets it’s easy to meet spectacular landscapes. You can see forests, lakes and also, herd of reindeer or a solitary reindeer !

Therefore, you need to be careful in driving during the day as well as in the night, to safeguard the reindeer safety but moreover to safeguard your and your car security.

Along the polar streets it’s frequent to meet huge postal boxes: it’s true that the polar people are good reader but these boxes are also used for bulky mail and postal packages.

Because of the big distances, driving on the polar roads, its frequent to meet big tracks, one + one and a half: generally the trailers are two time bigger than the tractor. These truck are curious and painted in bright colours and sometimes reckless but interesting and particular moving on the north street, often travelling in convoy (never like Australin’s caravans), breaking the atmosphere, the beautifulness’ and the monotony of the big lakes and the immense woods.

The truck "one and a half" can also go inside the ferry-boat that connect Baltic shores: in the picture you can see a truck "one and a half" coming out from the ferry-boat that ply between Finland and Sweden.

The first explores that circumnavigated the Africa and arrived to Cape’s City in the South Africa Republic, had named the point as Storm Cape because of the strong wind storm and rain storm, along with the strong sea current, that often tested crew and ships

The Portuguese King changed the name in Cape of Good Hope not to scare the crew that were circumnavigating Africa, to wish good luck and to declare that anyone who arrived in that point had good chance to reach Indian coasts …….. because the worst was past.

Magellano was the first, known to us, that past from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean following South American coasts. This land was named "Land of Fire" because of the many fires the natives lighted in the night and that were well visible from the ships.

We still not know the real reason they lighted these fires: to keep away crew or to catch the attention of them or, maybe, to limited the coasts helping ships in navigation.

Lots of north houses’ roofs have a covering that apparently seams to be tar or some other black oil by-product… in contrast with the nature and the natural product’s use such us wood. But, all is not gold that glitter: the covering are made in vegetal tar, a natural product that is really abundant in the artic lands.

In northern area winter temperature often reach 15/20 degreases under the zero and for a long period.

Temperature that have a bad influence on the car battery. Therefore, it’s common to see large parking with generators that need to the cars for starting the engine. These kind of parking need coin for the generator or for the stop?
